Large Himalayan Salt Lamps
These Large Himalayan Salt lamps have been mined and hand assembled by a family that’s been part of the salt business for many generations. Each lamp is one of a kind, ranging in weight between 9 and 13 pounds and measuring between 8 and 10 inches tall. They include their integrated wood base, a 5.5 foot long cord and dimmer, and one bulb. We also carry additional or replacement bulbs for your convenience.
Salt lamps are said to naturally generate negative ions through the heating the salt that surrounds the lamp, and its been claimed that these ions are capable of neutralizing their oppositely charged positive ions which may be found in the environments we live in. The absence of these free ions and the energies of the Himalayan salt itself is what has been said to promote a more relaxed state of mind and cleared space that is free of negativity.
Historical Folklore
It is said that halite’s auric cleansing abilities are based on its color. For example, pale white halite is thought to harness the power of the heart, removing obstructions that stand in the way of one’s inner guidance, while pink halite prevents spirit attachment.
Geology
Pink Himalayan Salt is a form of Halite (Sodium Chloride), a water soluble mineral that is formed through the evaporation of the high ph water of oceans or enclosed salty seas. It is a very brittle mineral with a Cubic Crystal structure that occasionally forms dazzling clusters of transparent square crystals. While it salt can be found worldwide, the unique pink Himalayan Salt used in these lamps is found only in the regions surrounding the Himalayan Mountains.
Large Himalayan Salt Lamp Care
All varieties of Halite or Salt are highly soluble in water and your Large Himalayan Salt Lamp is no exception. In Very humid conditions these lamps may “pull” moisture out of the air and slowly sweat the salty water out. While this is in no way detrimental to the lamps, it can be a bit upsetting if you’ve placed your lamp on something that should not see any moisture. During the hot summer months at our store we like to place our display lamps on a small tray to trap any of this. The lamps themselves do not require any additional cleansing from sage or other stones.
The bulbs in these lamps are small Incandescent bulbs with a candelabra base and replacements can be purchased from Crystal Life if needed. While much of the world has switched to the use of more energy efficient Led bulbs, the bulbs in these lamps are incandescent for a reason. Unlike more modern light sources, an incandescent bulb produces a lot of heat which is necessary to heat the salt in these lamps for their effect.
