These durable Gold Vermeil Box Chains are Made in Italy of high quality .925 Silver and plated with a thin layer Gold. We stock a variety of lengths each having the same 1mm thickness reflecting the solid 1x1mm links used to construct each chain. Although they give off a delicate appearance, these chains are quite sturdy in the nature of their design and have been constructed well. They close with a quality marked spring ring clasp and have a small tag that reads .925 Italy to represent the main material used to construct the chain. 

Gold vermeil is very often just called gold plating however there are a few significant differences.

The main distinction between the two is the material that lies just beneath the thin gold layer. With Vermeil, the material must be sterling silver, a high quality material in its own right that does not require any plating to pass as fine jewelry. In the case of Gold Plate, the material beneath the layer of gold is often copper, brass or nickel none of which are used to create fine jewelry due to their reactive nature and the likelihood of triggering skin reactions in certain people.

The other key difference between the two is the thickness of gold deposited on the metal with vermeil having thicker layer. Both of these distinctions are important when considering the durability and lifetime of a plated piece of jewelry.

Gold Vermeil Box Link Chain Care

These chains are crafted from Sterling Silver, an alloy consisting of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% pure copper which is used to to add strength to the alloy. and coated with a thin layer of gold. Because gold does not tarnish or discolor these chains do not require any routine cleaning or polishing beyond washing with soap and water.

Unlike silver or solid gold jewelry it is extremely important that these gold vermeil chains are not treated with any strong chemical cleaners or polished in any way. The abrasive nature of polishing and chemical cleaning will degrade the gold plating drastically reducing the lifetime of the chain.
