Geology

Pietersite is a chatoyant variety of the quartz based gemstone Chalcedony.  It is typically brown, black or blue in color with some inclusions. This stones brilliant chatoyance is caused by theparallel growth of amphibole fibers throughout the chalcedony base stone. This stone is typically found in parts of India and Asia, South Africa, Namibia, and Australia.

Chakra Association

Pietersite resonates with the higher heart, third eye, and past life chakras. Some believe it can clear and align all chakras.

Astrological Association

Leo is typically associated with pietersite.

Health folklore

Folklore suggests that pietersite has a variety of bodily benefits, including supporting the functions of the pituitary gland, metabolism,  lungs, liver, intestines, feet, and legs. It also is believed to regulate the endocrine system, hormones, blood, body temperature, and absorption of minerals.
