Atala’s portrait study of a Great Horned Owl, “On Alert”, has won Best of Show at this year’s Midwest Museum of Natural History‘s Wildlife Photo Contest. The Museum is located in Sycamore, Illinois. The contest drew entries from throughout the region and photos were on display at the Museum for several months.
The owl’s ear tufts are raised in alert as he calmly scans the area for any danger.
The owl is associated with mystery, mysticism, magic, the moon, and the feminine energies. It represents wisdom and healing knowledge. The owl is nocturnal and can see and hunt well in the dark. The Great Horned Owl’s day-time equivalent is the Red-Tailed Hawk.
If you enjoy this award-winning image – you can have it in your own collection. “On Alert” is available on our website as a 5×7 card with envelope; and as an 11 x 14 matted photograph. Pigment on archival paper.
being from the N.W. of these beautiful United Stated I have seen beautiful Mule Deer, Antelope, Puma, the great Grizz , Black and even few cinnamon bears, the Eagle’s and Falcon’s and other animals a plenty. I do see Owls but as you know they are best see at night, when you come upon them on the back 40 fourty and other elusive places. In coming to a close this H. Owl is wonderful, you know the first thing it thinks about is “where is my dinner”
The rest I ponder what it thinks about.
Thank you so much for this photo, and I Thank to whomever you pray to, for giving us these wonderful animals, even though so many human animals have failed at a being their stewards.
