“How can I learn to meditate better?”
That depends on what you mean by better meditation. Do you want to be able to focus more or to go deeper. Do you want to learn how to quiet your mind? Do you want to be able to see images or hear your guides? There is no one “right” way to meditate. What might have worked for you last year, might not work for you today. Explore the many different ways and experience which one works best for your needs. The following are some tips that will help in any meditation technique:
1. If a thought comes into your mind about upcoming chores, tell it to wait for you in the other room and you will get to it when you are done meditating. Then return to center.
2. If there is too much noise where you are at, take the noise as an opportunity to “dive” deeper into your meditation. Literally see yourself diving off of a diving board and into the depth of yourself.
3. Remember to breathe. Focus on your breath to keep your mind clear and to feel calmer.
4. Allot a certain time each day to meditate even if that means getting up a half hour earlier or staying awake later to be able to have the quiet time to yourself.
5. If at first it seems hard to settle down and meditate, try, try again. The more you practice, the easier it becomes to meditate.
6. Give yourself some grace.
