The Goddess has appeared in many ways for 20,000 to 30,000 years, either singularly or in three faces: the Maid, Mother, and Crone. Three is a sacred number symbolizing birth, life, and death; beginning, middle, end; body, mind spirit; etc.
So whether you look at Goddess as Maid, Mother, Crone, or God as Father, Son, Holy Spirit, you look at a trinity. Since we are looking at the Triple Goddess today, we may ask “Are we modeled after Goddess, or was Goddess modeled after humans?” Or, more plainly “Has Goddess formed us, or have we anthropomorphized Goddess?” (Made her to conform to our understanding of humanity.)
Here are a few Triple Goddess Figures:
Maiden
Persephone
Hestia
Artemis
Diana
Athena
Mother
Demeter
Rhea
Ceres
Hera
Hathor
Crone
Kali
Nekhbet
Cybele
Caillech
Freyja
If we then approach the many changing energies in our lives today, we may approach them with the Triple Goddess in mind. Here are some questions to ask each one, or which aspect of Goddess you approach for various situations.
Maiden:
1. Is there a new beginning or hope of one in view?
2. Is it time for a new job or task?
3. When planning to move
4. Birth of a child
5. Relationships that are new
Mother:
1. Completing a project
2. Endurance
3. Blessing & protection
4. Spiritual direction
5. Gardening
Crone:
1. Ending relationships
2. Regrouping at a cycle’s end
3. When moving from a dwelling or a job
4. The time between cycles, rest
5. Spiritual understanding
For any of the above situations, one may connect in meditation to any of these goddess figures for clarity and understanding.
For balance, one also needs to look at the other side – the Father aspect. This balances Mother – Father aspects which then produces the son, or end results.
