Historical Folklore

Nuummite’s name is derived from the name Nuuk, the area in Greenland in which the stone was discovered. Nuuk is the Greenlandic word for “Cape”.

Geology

Nummite is a metamorphic rock that is considerably rare being found in only two locations globally. Its name has origins from the region it was first found, Nuuk, Greenland. This opaque black stone consists of two varieties of the mineral Amphibole, Gedrite and Anthophyllite that have been forced into a homogenous mixture before separating into distinct layered lamellae. This unique structure leads to the stones often strong iridescence. Nuummite, along with other components of the earths crust in Greenland, is extremely old. Dating back to the Archean eon, these stones have existed since the very beginnings of microbial life on earth millions of years before oxygen was a large component of the atmosphere.  They have survived through the dramatic geological processes that were occurring  2.8 Billion years ago and everything since..

Bathe in full moonlight regularly to energize crystals. Cleanse regularly by placing your Nuummite Pillow on a piece of selenite or by moving through the smoke of sage. These stones can be gently washed with soap and water if necessary.
