The solar plexus chakra is known in yoga as Manipura (“the city of gems”). The third major chakra in the seven-chakra system, it controls the positive use of personal power. This chakra is actually a series of points located between the sternum bone and the naval, opening front (emotions) and back (will power). Depending on our focus – from spiritual issues to sports – our solar plexus energies shift along this line of use.
This chakra governs how we work with our Self, and develops during ages 14-21. When it is functioning harmoniously we experience inner peace and harmony with our Self, our life, and other people. We don’t feel depressed because we have true contentment and faith that what is occurring is for the best. People with a strong, balanced solar plexus perform at high physical and spiritual levels. Organs affected by this chakra are the digestive, liver, and autonomic nervous systems.
