How to photograph a ghost

Hi folks. Some of you have sent in photos of shimmering specters you’ve caught on your cameras and asked if they were ghosts. So I wanted to show you what is NOT a ghost. These images shown here are not ghosts.

In this photo, I held the lens open using a cable, and looked at the camera then ducked my head , stared and moved my head back and forth, creating this image of a distorted face.

This is my grandmother's chair, and the presence of her and my mother are very strong here; you can almost see them. But here it is me. I snapped the photo, then kept the lens open and quickly walked away, letting the camera continue to capture the image of the chair.
Cameras are fun to work with and since their start they sometimes have been used to make double exposures and create ghost like scenes. Digital cameras don’t take double exposures, but they can also be used to create image overlays that look like ghosts. Some ghost like images can occur accidentally such as: you have opened up the shutter speed to take a dark indoors shot and someone passes by as the camera lens is open; this can look like a fog if the person walked very fast or a ghost with features if the person walked by slowly. With photo shop you can also add layers and superimpose several images, creating a ghost. In the photos shown here, I used a Nikon D80 on a tripod, opened the shutter speed to “bulb”, attached a cable and locked it in open position.
So while sometimes you do capture a spirit or entity, at other times there is a simpler explanation, one a photographer can spot right away.

I was thrilled to discover that some of the orbs that appear on my digital photos are actually spirits. I get lots of orbs with faces even what appear to be animal faces. I also get pictures of actual spirits. I don’t know why they appear because I don’t intend to photograph them, I don’t even see them at the time. If someone has a possible explanation for why my photos capture spirits please let me know. It’s difficult to explain to non-believers, and with the digital editing programs available today, I feel like people don’t believe that I did not create them myself. Thanks Linda Moore
